ADULT PIANO LESSONS
Students of all playing abilities are welcome, beginner to advanced. It's never too late to learn piano, return to playing skills developed in earlier years or continue improving an accomplished command of the keyboard. The best thing about playing piano as an adult is that you're doing it to please yourself -- there's no parent or schoolteacher looking over your shoulder. You can play the pieces you like, the ones that fill your soul with richness and happiness.
Adults benefit from piano playing and musical development in many ways. Playing the piano improves concentration, focus and energy. Many adults find that playing piano helps relieve the stress of daily life -- just 15 or 20 minutes of playing may be all it takes to set a calm, positive outlook for the rest of the day. Through music, you can learn so much about yourself, how you're feeling, what you enjoy, what you need at the moment. Playing piano can be soulful as a personal expression of moods and feelings of achievement and proficiency as you continue to master more difficult pieces of music.
Finally, playing piano is wonderful for maintaining physical dexterity and sharp functioning of the brain. According to a 2014 article in National Geographic, "musical training can have a 'profound' and lasting impact on the brain, creating additional neural connections in childhood that can last a lifetime and thus help compensate for cognitive declines later in life, says neuropsychologist Brenda Hanna-Pladdy of Emory University in Atlanta. Those many hours spent learning and practicing specific types of motor control and coordination (each finger on each hand doing something different ...), along with the music-reading and listening skills that go into playing an instrument in youth, are all factors contributing to the brain boost that shows up later in life."
The rewards of your persistence and personal practice can be quite gratifying! Imagine the magic of performing a beautiful arrangement for friends and family or even just to please yourself. A piano is a great unifying instrument, bringing people closer together for mutual enjoyment, participation and sheer joy of music.
